Catherine Trevino I joined SHPE for the Familia. Finding people that had the same passions as me was important. 2019 Catherine Trevino When I struggled in class, SHPE gave me resources and assured me that engineering WAS my place. Catherine left the engineering major but was encouraged to return and continue following her passion by her SHPE Familia. 2019 Catherine Trevino Once I got back into SHPE, I went to National Convention and landed my dream internship at Intel. Catherine is now the Student Chapter President at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley. 2019 Catherine Trevino My advice for a new member is to find a mentor. Join SHPE Indhira Hasbún Indhira is a civil and environmental engineering now studying engineering education. 2013 Through SHPE, I did a lot of Latino outreach. I never imagined that I could make a career out of it. Indhira Hasbún Indhira is now a PhD student at Florida International University studying Engineering Education, affiliated with the newest school in the College of Engineering and Computing: SUCCEED. Her dissertation is focused on the experiences of being a Latinx engineering student at a Hispanic-serving institution. 2014 Indhira Hasbún Every time I come to a SHPE event I'm infused with a renewed sense of purpose like: I can do this. 2019 Indhira Hasbún Being a faculty member would position me to have the biggest impact on the community. After receiving her Ph.D., Indhira's goal is to become a faculty member at a Hispanic-serving institution. 2019 Become a SHPE Member! Join today! Rudy Medina Jr. 2019 Everybody is here for one reason - to impact and influence the Hispanic community. Rudy Medina Jr. I saw a SHPE flyer and didn't know what it was but I was interested in professional opportunities. College - Texas A&M, Corpus Christi 2012 Rudy Medina Jr. 2019 Rudy now works for Texas Instruments in Dallas-Fort Worth after graduating in 2018 with dual majors in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. Rudy Medina Jr. My parents didn't want me moving but I knew I could impact the community I came from. Making the move to Dallas-Fort Worth wasn't easy for Rudy, leaving his family and friends behind. 2018 Rudy Medina Jr. My advice for graduates is to reach out to the SHPE professionals where you are. 2019 Become a SHPE Member Today! Join SHPE Miguel Becerra 2016 At my first SHPE meeting I was amazed by how many members there were - probably 100 plus. Miguel Becerra I was introverted, so being able to make friends through SHPE helped me become proud of who I am. As a student, Miguel was elected Vice President of Corporate Affairs for the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo SHPE Chapter. 2017 Miguel Becerra I got my internship with PG&E at National Convention. Now I have a full time position with them. 2017 Miguel Becerra I will continue to be involved with SHPE as a professional with the power to give back to others. Miguel is a Regional Junior Representative, mentoring students through SHPE Jr, Noche de Ciencias, and teaching kids the benefits of careers in STEM. 2019 Miguel Becerra My advice for new members is don't be afraid to take risks.
